2024 Conference Presentation Formats

Four presentation formats will be available for our 2024 conference! Check them out below.

Individual talks

An individual talk consists of a brief summary communicating the “lessons learned” from practice or research. Each session is a collection of three (3) individual presentations of 15 minutes each. The goal is to present innovative practices or methods, research findings, etc.

Each presenter is asked to prepare a PowerPoint (or equivalent) presentation for their 15-minute talk. Presenters are asked to be attentive and respectful of their time allocation to allow all talks to have an equal amount of time.

Session Setup:

A Session Chair introduces the topics and the presenters (2-5 mins); a Talk (presented by the main author or authors) is allocated a total of 20 minutes (15 mins presentation, 5 mins for Q&A); (optional) a Discussant brings the presentations together and helps to identify a common message (8-10 mins).

Timeframe:

15 minutes for each presentation, for a total of a 75 minutes time slot.

Symposia

A symposium consists of 3-5 individual presentations organized around a single theme, focusing on “why we do it” and the theory behind it. Symposium can be interactive and may consist of a panel discussion or be devoted to activities such as discussion among the presenters and discussants.

This presentation format is reserved for special cases and should be selected only if the presenters/authors have an important topic they wish to present or discuss as a group.

Session Setup:

The session begins with the Session Chair (Moderator) introducing the symposium. After each presenter gives their talk, the session concludes with a Discussant who expands on the topic and describes how the presentations collectively add to the field.

Timeframe:

75 minutes

Poster Session

Posters consist of graphical displays that provide opportunities for discussion and explanation of experiences and/or materials.  It is a good idea to make a number of handout-sized copies (about 20) of the poster to distribute to interested parties.

The typical poster is made on poster paper, poster size 120 x 90 cm (48 x 36 inches). Information on the poster should be self-explanatory and feature key ideas.

Session Setup:

Presenters set up their posters on the poster boards in a large hall ahead of the assigned time period; presenters have informal individualized discussions with small groups throughout the 90- minute time slot, generally during the lunch period.

Timeframe:

75 minutes

Interactive Session – Short

Short Interactive Sessions provide participants with clearly defined aims and/or outcomes for the engagement with a focal topic/tool/technology/etc. Typically, they are facilitated by an individual or a group, presentations are brief, thereby providing adequate time for interaction, discussion and/or generation of a tangible artifact.

NOTE: There will be two short hands-on session (one after the other) in the same room, 35 mins each, including summary discussions and/or Q&A.

Session Setup:

A large room that allows participants to work together and/or move freely between stations. Note that presenters are responsible for bringing any materials necessary to carry out their session.

Timeframe:

35 minutes for each presentation, for a total of a 70 minutes time slot.

Interactive Session – Long

Long interactive Sessions too provide participants with clearly defined aims and/or outcomes for the engagement with a focal topic/tool/technology/etc. Typically, they are facilitated by an individual or a group. This format provides more time for interaction, discussion and/or generation of a tangible artifact when compared to short hands-on sessions. The objective of having a longer session is to deepen understanding of how the presented practice and/or research fits into instructional practice or student learning.

Session Setup:

A large room that allows participants to work together and/or move freely between stations. Note that presenters are responsible for bringing any materials necessary to carry out their session.

Timeframe:

75 minutes.
