We hope this message finds you and yours in good health and in safe surroundings during these unprecedented times of the COVID-19 crisis. For those who may be unwell, in precarious circumstances, or experienced a loss, our thoughts and condolences go out to you.

The Annual SALTISE conference is cancelled for 2020.

The Conference Committee debated whether or not to replace the physical meeting with a virtual version. But, we will not proceed with that option given the growing severity of the crisis. Our decision was not taken lightly, especially given the high quality and large number of submissions received this year (an increase of over 50%). Instead, we decided to prepare a Conference Program that will document the accepted proposals and honour the recipients of the 2020 Teaching awards and Lifetime honour. We will send out notifications to authors shortly and post updates on the website in the weeks to come.

Possibility of a smaller scale virtual gathering – Please stay tuned.

Based on developments of the COVID containment, we are keeping open the possibility of a smaller scale virtual gathering of members who wish to share lessons learned for the rapid implementations of online classes. Can we use these changes we have been forced to implement to pivot smoothly into what we might do in the future?

Reaffirming our mission to the Community.

More than ever, we believe in the importance of the SALTISE mission to connect local, national and international communities of educational practitioners and researchers together. We are changing the focus of the website to keep our community informed and provide evidence-based resources for online learning and teaching. We encourage you to contribute as we continue to grow this repository. If you have something to share, please contact us info@saltise.ca.
