About this event

Dr. Charles is a faculty-researcher at Dawson College and co-Director of SALTISE, a community of practice supporting educators’ use of active learning. The title of Dr. Charles’ presentation is “Taking the Helm: Leveraging Active Learning Research”. The presentation will be an overview of processes involved in learning and how students might better leverage this understanding to increase academic success in STEM.
Dr. Charles has a PhD in Educational Technology, Concordia University, a post-doctorate in Learning Sciences, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, and was a visiting researcher with the Virtual Math Teams, Drexel University, Philadelphia. Her research areas include: active learning, computer-supported collaborative learning, STEM education, techno-pedagogical innovation and future learning spaces. Dr. Charles’ work with communities of practice and Research-Practice-Partnerships have led to her College Sector Educator Award (2012) from STLHE and Annual Research Recognition Award (2019) from Dawson College.
