Webinar materials - Promoting Equity Across Multi-Section and Multi-Semester Competencies

Differences in how a course is taught across sections, departments, and institutions can have a significant impact on student success, particularly in pre-university (Pre-U) and technical programs. However, student success also requires each teacher to have some pedagogical autonomy due to the highly contextualized nature of the profession. This webinar explores how greater alignment in curriculum planning and teaching practices can result in a more consistent and supportive learning experience, including helping, not hindering teachers’ ability to make good pedagogical decisions for their classes.

Drawing on real examples from across colleges, we discuss challenges and strategies for addressing disparities in course structure, pacing, and assessment. We introduced CourseFlow as a tool that has helped several departments tackle these issues, supporting equitable practices through structured planning.

About CourseFlow

CourseFlow is an interactive web application created by SALTISE to allow instructors to design their course at multiple levels of pedagogical planning, in a dynamic and practical way. Instructors are able to illustrate the flow of smaller activities during a segment of a single class period, longer activities lasting multiple classes, or the flow of a full semester-long course.
