A lightboard is a piece of lighted plexiglass used as a writing surface in educational videos. It enables the instructor/presenter to face the camera while writing on the board, thus allowing for the creation of personalized and engaging videos. An example can be seen here: What’s a “Lightboard” Studio (and How Do They Work?) . While commercial versions of lightboard are relatively expensive (Lightboard: Buy or build?), do-it-yourself versions can be built at a much lower cost. The objectives of this project are to build a lightboard at Vanier College, test it, use it to create educational videos, and then show other teachers how to use it.

Stefan Bracher (Vanier College – Physics) has been creating educational videos for some years now (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzFAQYYUVr348QZVauEFi4g). In addition he has the experience in woodwork and electronics necessary to assemble the board. He applied for release time in the fall 2019 to produce a complete set of videos for all topics in NYA Mechanics and a CCDMD project to do a small set of videos in a professional setting, as well for fall 2019.

Lissiene Neiva (Vanier College – Biology) has been using videos in a flipped classroom model for 5 years and is looking forward to producing her own videos in order to target specific needs of students at Vanier.

Christopher Gregg (Vanier College – Biology) has also received release time for Vanier College to produce educational videos for his General Biology I (NYA) class. These videos can also be found on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ7MSls4Co9-sMtCwxJeS9e4vXl8Ugp2J)

Edward Awad (Vanier College – Biology) has received a SALTISE mini-grant in 2016 to create interactive educational videos. He had since created several educational videos that he shared on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/user/edbiopodcasts2012/featured?view_as=subscriber) and are currently being used in his biology flipped courses.
